Good News!

According to the article, “Some parks may go to the dogs”, in The Grand Rapids Press on Thursday, December 5, “Grand Rapids city commissioners said Tuesday they are willing to consider “dog parks” in the city...”

Let’s keep the signatures rolling in and send the message that our tax dollars are enough to create community dog parks within Grand Rapids!

I'm disappointed to read Mayor Logie's comment "We'll see if dog owners have deeper pockets than skateboarders." We already pay taxes, skateboarders probably aren't (unless they are homeowners?). I could probably get behind some nominal addition to the $$ we pay to license a dog, to **SUPPORT** dog parks, but I would have to draw a line at fundraising to CREATE the dog parks.

Most of the MI dog parks I have read about charge a daily or annual fee. I would be willing to pay something to keep it maintained.

Since there seems to be a lot of concerned comments about Mayor Logie's statement, I just wanted to point out that this petition drive is focusing on creating local, community dog parks within Grand Rapids using our city taxes that we already pay.

We are going to try and set up a meeting with the mayor this week to clarify our needs - we will post something soon on that.

Also, it's great to hear that the city commissioners are thinking about how to make a city dog park happen!

Isn't the city forking over $228,000 to put in a soccer field in cambridge park?...Isn't this the same park that started all this debate in the first place? I wouldnt necessarly mind paying a users fee to bring my dog to a dog park in town ..but I rather resent the comments made by Mayor Logie. About dogowners pockets'hopefully being deeper. Are they going to be charging user fees to the individuls using the new cambridge park soccer field or base ball diamond? I think not!
